Cultural Event

Last week (8^th March 2016), I went to International Cultural Festival and Celebration (ICFC). This event was held in Widya Mandala University Kalijudan. It was not just for Widya Mandala students but also for high school students. There were also some reporters and journalists. The event had seven countries that gave us information about each country. They were China, France, Belarus, Indonesia, Spain, Germany, and Netherland.

Each of them explained about each country. Some explained about the history of the country, culture, food, language, and fun fact. France, Germany, and Netherlands's representatives taught us several words in their languages. Indonesia's representative explained about Indonesian food, which called pecel. The most exciting part was when Spain's representative taught us how to do salsa dance. A bunch of people got on the stage and followed the dancers, there were two dancers. Some of them danced very funny and made everyone laugh so hard. I did not get to the stage because it was very crowded and we barely can move, so I just watched and took a picture of them.

Overall, the event was pretty awesome. It showed me about different culture that each country had. I got to learn new languages but I already forget some of them honestly, because there were lots of languages that they taught us. However, I will try to learn new languages when I have a free time. I have always wanted to learn France, but it was a little bit hard for me. I think it is exciting to learn different cultures from all over the world.

If I could suggest, it would be better if the committee add more chairs so that everyone can seat and enjoy the show. They also should turn on the air conditioner a little higher because there were lots of people in the room and it felt a little bit hot. That’s all I can say for this event.

My Spin on Zodiacs

In general, there are 12 zodiacs that most people know. They are Ram, Bull, Twins, Crab, Lion, Maiden, Scales, Scorpion, Archer, Goat, Water-bearer, and fish. I am pretty sure that people know that, but what if there is a “Moose Zodiac”? Have you ever think of it? If the answer is no, I am going to tell you right now what kind of person who has a Moose Zodiac.

The first thing that I am going to talk about is the general behavior. A person who has a moose zodiac is a quiet, observant, and gentle person. This person is hard worker who pursue her (his) dream and they have strong reason of what they believe in. Moose are sensitive, but this is not a weaknesses. They life their lives calmly and they like to observe others. Therefore, they gain knowledge and understand what is going on in their habitat. However, if they are pushed too far, they will blow up and be aggressive. People who have this zodiac, tends to surround themselves with familiar faces. They like to try new things and explore the world.

The next is about love and friendship. People who have moose zodiac are the kind of best friend that you want to have. They are caring and compassionate people who will sit and listen to a friend’s problems with great patient and empathy. They will tell you the truth whether you like it or not. They are reliable and trustworthy, most people appreciate having them around. However, when it comes to romance, it takes time. They want to find their identity first, then figure out what kind of person whom they need in their lives to be the love of their lives.

The last is about careers and goals. These kinds of people can be leaders, but often will prefer to be the “right hand man”. They do not care about fame or attention, in fact they find it to be an unnecessary distraction. Several career options for these people are soldier, secret agent, police officer, psychologist, designer, and archeologist.

Second Journal

This is my second journal for my writing class. It has been a month since I wrote my first post in this blog. I have written about myself, my family and friend, my uniqueexperience, and also important events in my life. I have been given corrections from my lecturer for all of my post and I look at the mistake that I had made. I have learned about how to write a good story so that the readers can understand the meaning of the story. I have learned that in order to make a good story I have to write it in a chronological order so that the readers are not confused. It is important to understand every little detail, for example like the verb, to be, plural or singular object, the space and many more. To make a story, I have to understand what grammar I should use. The lecturer told me that I have to make different paragraph for different things that I am going to explain. For example, the first paragraph is about the opening, the second is about my family, the next is about my friends, and so on.

I kept all the correction that my lecturer has given to me. Most of the mistakes that I made were about verb for singular and plural object, and punctuation marks. Those kind of things that I should work on more. Of course, I will not forget about the main thing, it is indeed, the grammar. Sometimes I do not know what grammar I should use. However, I am beginning to understand it and what its use. I think I need to pay more attention to the little things, such as punctuation marks and regular verb and irregular verb. Still, comparing to the first review that I got, my third and fourth reviews got fewer correction. So I guess I can say that it is an improvement.

I think it is very important to learn how to write English correctly. Let’s say, if I am applying for a scholarship abroad, I will definitely have to write an essay in English. Well, probably I still need to learn more if I want to do that but who knows? Maybe it will happen someday. I could use what I have learned in writing class to write the reading assignment or any other assignment, not speaking of course because I have to speak instead of writing.

Anyway, I am feeling a lot of pressure this week. Why you ask? It is because of the mid-term test that I am going to do next week. However, I cannot complain about that because that is what a college student does. Therefore, I rewrite the important things that I need to remember and write my own notes for each subject so that I can understand them better. I also do not forget to pray to God so that God can guide me along the way.

My Important Event

Hello guys, welcome back to my blog. In this post, I am going to tell you about one of the most important events in my life. I think I would never forget about this story, so here we go.

When I was in elementary school, I had always wanted to be a doctor. Probably because lots of my friends wanted to be a doctor too, and being a doctor sounded really cool at that moment. However, it changed when I enter Junior High School. At that time, I wanted to be a vet. The reason why I wanted to be a vet was because I had two rabbits and I just thought that they were really cute and adorable. But three years later when I was in High School, I changed my mind again. This time, I wanted to be a famous fashion designer. When I was in 10^th grade, I discovered that I liked to look at what people are wearing, what kind of style they like and I also like to do my own sketches of clothes. That brings us to the important events in my life.

As I was in 12^th grade, my friend and I thought about what we were going to wear on our graduation day. Most graduation day in Indonesia wear traditional clothes named kebaya. For that reason, my friends and I had to wear kebaya. I was so happy that time because I can design my own kebaya and gave it to a tailor. We planed to wear a peplum kebaya, and we chose blue or pink for the color.

The graduation day has come, I put on some makeup and wore my own kebaya that I designed. I got to the graduation place with my mom and dad. When I entered the room, I saw lots of people wearing different kind of beautiful kebaya. I told my mom and dad to go upstairs because it was the place for all of the students’ parents. Then I came over to my friend and talk to them. Then, we were called one by one to go in front and received a report book. After we received the report card, we take lots of selfie. We all fell relieve and incredibly happy because we have completed our High School, but we also fell sad because we all going to be separated in different universities. However, we knew that we can still see each other again. For me, graduation feels like an open door. It changes my life, it makes me more mature. It means time to grow up, time to find who I am, time to be responsible for my life, and time to work hard in order to fulfill my dreams. Graduation is not the end, it is the beginning of something new.

Lovely People In My Life

Hello friends!

I am going to tell you about my family and my best friend. As you can see right at the top there is a picture of a man whose always cares about me. Yes, that is the picture of my father. I usually called him "papa" instead of father or dad. My father’s name is Adi Purwahajo, people called him Adi. He has a clean oval face, no mustache and no beard. I told him not to grow a mustache nor beard because I think he will look frightening and scary, and he prefers not to have it anyway. He has medium eyes and thick eyebrows. My father has a really short black hair and he always cares about his hair. He does not want to have a long hair and he always gets his hair cut even when it is not that long. 

If you are guessing if that beautiful lady in the left is my mother, then you are 100 % correct. My mother’s name is Agustin Rahaju, people called her Agustin. For an Indonesian I have to say that my mom is a little bit short. However, I like it that way because I can hug her easily and it makes my mom looks cute. My mom has a round beautiful face and she has a flat nose. Her eyebrows are quite thin because she likes to plug them so they look neat and great. She has almond shape eyes which are black. Her hair is black and long, it is kind of curly and wavy at the same time.

On top of all that, my mom is the most incredible person that I’ve ever known and it will probably stay the same forever. She is very kind to me and she never yells at me. She simply just gives me a very wise advice when I make a mistake. I’m very grateful that I have been given two very amazing people in my life. I always feel emotional when I’m talking or in this case writing about my mom. I literally cried just a little bit when I wrote this, you can call me mawkish or whatever hahaha…

So there they are, my little beautiful family. You must be wondering whether I have a sister or brother, well I don’t. I’m the only child in my family and I’m kind of okay with that. I’m still learning to be a good daughter for my parents. I want to make them proud of who I’m and what I’m accomplished. I promise that I will try my best to make them happy and show them that they have raised me well.

Even though I don't have a sister nor brother, I never fell lonely because I have lots of best friend. I fell like having a bunch of  sisters who care about me. However, I’m not going to write all of them because that is going to take lots of time and it is too confusing. Anyway, the girl in the picture is called Ratri. She is one of my high school mates, partner in crime, and best friend. She is a college student and she is studying graphic design in ITS. She is a bit short for an Indonesian, about 150 cm, I think. She told me that she drinks milk twice a day, but that does not do anything much to her height. She has a square face and slightly pointed nose. Her eyes are little bit big and she has a little mole under her left eyebrow. Her upper and bottom lips are thin and small. She used to have a long hair but she got her hair cut into medium length. She has wavy black hair, but nowadays she wears a veil everywhere she goes.

I think the reasons that we are close are because we both have the same hobby and we both like to do the same thing. She likes drawing and painting for sure, because she is a graphic design student. She also likes to make and edit a video and so do I. In fact, we made several videos together with several of our best friends and we put them on youtube. It’s just for fun memories so that when we are already old, we can look back and remember about those beautiful and weird memories.
